The World Poker Tour has announced the lineup for 13 new Ladies Events on this International Women’s Day that will coincide with various stops on the Season XXI tour schedule. These will all lead up to the second annual WPT Ladies Championship that will take place as part of the WPT World Championship event in December.
“At WPT we take pride in the efforts we have put forth to increase women’s participation in poker,” said WPT CEO Adam Pliska. “As we recognize and celebrate International Women’s Day, we look forward to these record-setting initiatives throughout Season XXI and seeing more women play in our events around the world.”
WPT Vice President of Global Tour Management Angelica Hael added, “Fostering the presence of women in poker has always been a natural part of the WPT ecosystem. This year, we are proud to present dedicated Ladies Events at an overwhelming majority of our global festivals, culminating with the 2023 WPT Ladies Championship at Wynn Las Vegas.”
ClubWPT will also be running an online qualifier for the 2023 WPT Ladies Championship later today at 9:30 pm ET to celebrate the announcement. The winner will receive a $2,500 passport, which includes the buy-in, a three-night stay at Wynn Las Vegas, and $1,000 in cash. WPT Anchor Lynn Gilmartin will be a featured bounty in the event and will livestream her experience on the ClubWPT Twitch channel.
In addition to today’s announcement, the WPT will air episodes from various Ladies Nights and Ladies Championships across TV and OTT platforms every night in the month of March in honor of Women’s History Month.
The previous WPT Ladies Championship attracted a field of 578 entries at Wynn Las Vegas. That turnout combined with the $1,100 buy-in for the no-limit hold’em tournament produced a prize pool worth $560,660. The top 72 players cashed for at least $1,941, and the eventual champion was Lina Nui, who took home $105,136 as the champion.
The Ladies Events will coincide with the following stops on the WPT Season XXI Schedule:
