Fedor Holz Wins Triton London $25,000 Seven-Max Event

Fedor Holz emerged victorious in the 2023 Triton Poker Super High Roller Series London $25,000 buy-in no-limit hold’em seven max event, securing his third title on the high-stakes-centric tour. The 30-year-old German player has now cashed for over $10.8 million across 11 Triton scores, or roughly a quarter of his total career tournament earnings of more than $41 million.

Holz remains in tenth place on poker’s all-time money list after this victory, putting a bit of space between him and 11th-ranked Isaac Haxton ($40.1 million).

“I think it gives a lot of confidence if you win a tournament,” Holz told Triton reporters after coming out on top. “I think you just believe more in your decision-making, so I’m super excited for the rest of the week. I think I’ll have a lot of fun.”

This latest victory saw Holz outlast a field of 120 entries to earn the trophy and the top payout of $609,853. He was also awarded 924 Card Player Player of the Year points for the win. This was his fourth final-table finish of the year, including two deep runs in sizable $100,000 buy-in fields. With 2,254 points and more than $2.7 million in to-date POY earnings, Holz has climbed to 82nd place in the 2023 POY race standing presented by Global Poker.

This event lasted two days. By the end of the first, only 27 remained from the field of 120 entries that turned out to the JW Marriott Grosvenor House in London. Plenty of big names hit the rail on the road to the final table, including seven-time Triton champion Jason Koon (18th), two-time Triton winner Michael Soyza (14th), bracelet winner Ben Heath (12th), and three-time bracelet winner Yuri Dzivielevski (10th).

Holz had separated himself from the rest of the pack by the time the final table was set, sitting with more than twice as many chips as the next largest stack. Tobias Schwecht bowed out in eighth place ($93,000) to narrow the field to seven. Then, Roman Hrabec’s (7th – $126,000) A-3 was outrun by the K-Q suited of Bruno Volkmann.

Renat Bohdanov was the next to fall. He shoved from the button with K-6 suited and ran into the A-Q of Chris Brewer in the small blind. Brewer’s hand held and he continued his climb up the leaderboard, while Bohdanov settled for $168,000 as the sixth-place finisher.

Danilo Velasevic was the clear short stack when six-handed action began. He called off with A-3 suited facing a button shove from Brewer, who had been looking to push around the short stacks with 10-8 suited. Brewer flopped a ten and held from there to eliminate Velasevic in fifth place ($214,50).

Bracelet winner Brian Kim’s run concluded when his K-9 clashed with the A-J of a surging Volkmann. The Brazilian flopped a full house and Kim was sent home with $267,000 for his efforts. Holz, who has slid lost the lead during short-handed play, doubled through Volkmann to switch up the dynamic. Volkmann’s final hand saw his 9-8 suited run into the Q-9 of Brewer. Neither player improved and Volkmann was knocked out in third place, earning $324,000 for his efforts.

With that, Brewer took approximately a 7:5 chip lead into heads-up play. The final two made a deal that redistributed the remaining prize pool more evenly, leaving $40,000 and the title to play for. Holz won a big flip with A-6 outracing pocket fours to take a decisive lead. In the final hand, all of the chips went in with Holz holding Q10 on a J92 flop. Brewer had KJ for top pair, but had to fade quite a lot of outs. The 3 turn kept Brewer ahead, but the 8 on the end gave Holz a queen-high straight for the win.

Brewer earned $600,647 as per the deal he negotiated. This was his 16th final-table finish of the year, with five titles and nearly $9.6 million won along the way. With 6,457 total points, Brewer is now sitting in fourth place in the 2023 POY standings.
