Alexandre Reard picked up his first seven-figure score Monday at the 2023 World Series of Poker, banking $1,057,663 for winning the $10,000 six-max no-limit hold’em championship event.
It was his second gold bracelet overall, having won the $5,000 no-limit hold’em event in 2021 for $428,694. The Frenchman now has more than $5.2 million in career tournament earnings.
The tournament attracted a field of 550 entries, creating a total prize pool of $5,115,000. The final 83 players made the money, earning a minimum payout of $16,088.
Notables who made a deep run included Andrey Pateychuk (26th), Barak Wisbrod (24th), Yueqi Zhu (22nd), Ben Diebold (21st), Taylor Paur (19th), Frank Lagodich (16th), Turbo Nguyen (15th), Felipe Ramos (13th), Farid Jattin (11th), Fabrice Bigot (8th), and Michael Rossitto (7th).
Phil Hellmuth had a shot at bracelet no. 18, but ultimately fell just short of the final table to bust in ninth place. This was Hellmuth’s 13th cash of the summer, which included a win in the $10,000 super turbo bounty event.
Eric Baldwin was looking for his third career bracelet, but ultimately busted in sixth place. He was followed by Eli Berg, bracelet winner Justin Liberto, and WSOP Global Casino champion AJ Kelsall.
That left a heads-up showdown between Reard and high-stakes pro Stephen Chidwick. Reard had entered the final day with a big chip lead and went into heads-up play with a 5:2 advantage.
The two battled for about half an hour before all the chips went in on a board reading 8d 5h 2h 6d. Chidwick held 8s 3c for top pair and a gutshot straight draw, but Reard had turned a straight with 4d 3d.
Chidwick did not hit his three-outer to chop, and was eliminated in second place. The bracelet winner earned $653,688 for his runner-up showing, which brings his career earnings to $49.7 million, just behind Daniel Negreanu for third place all time.
