BetMGM announced Tuesday it had reached an agreement to become an official sports betting partner of the Boston Red Sox, further raising its profile in Massachusetts ahead of the state’s launch of mobile wagering Friday.

BetMGM is one of at least seven operators set to begin accepting wagers in the Bay State on Friday, just ahead of next week’s NCAA Tournament and less than a month before the Major League Baseball season begins.

It is BetMGM’s first deal with a Massachusetts-based sports team and second with an MLB team in a state where mobile wagering has launched or will do so shortly. BetMGM is also an official sports betting partner of the Cincinnati Reds, with Ohio conducting a staggeringly successful launch in January that saw a record $208 million in operator revenue derived from more than $1.1 billion handle.

BetMGM is now an official sports betting partner with six MLB teams, having also reached deals with the Washington Nationals, Detroit Tigers, Pittsburgh Pirates, and Houston Astros. BetMGM also has a retail sportsbook adjacent to Nationals Park in the nation’s capital.

“The Red Sox are one of baseball’s most beloved organizations and we’re thrilled to bring BetMGM to their passionate fans. We look forward to working together to elevate the gameday experience in Boston,” BetMGM Chief Revenue Officer Matt Prevost said in a joint statement with the team.

Signage on ‘The Green Monstah’

While baseball purists may not like “dem apples,” the agreement allows BetMGM to have signage on the iconic “Green Monster” at Fenway Park, the left-field wall that is 37 feet and 2 inches high and runs the length of left field.

BetMGM will also have a suite at the stadium and offer VIP fan experiences that include “access to batting practice with premium seats, alumni appearances, and ceremonial first pitches.” BetMGM and the Red Sox also will have co-branded content across both groups’ social media and digital platforms.

“The Boston Red Sox are proud to partner with BetMGM as we prepare to enter a new era of professional sports betting in Massachusetts,” said Red Sox Executive Vice President of Partnerships Troup Parkinson. “Given our strong relationship with MGM Resorts, BetMGM was the clear choice to become the first sports betting partner of the club, and we look forward to them offering sports betting opportunities to our fans in a safe and responsible manner.”

BetMGM already has a retail presence in Massachusetts via MGM Springfield. The brick-and-mortar sportsbook began accepting bets Jan. 31 and was one of two retail venues of the three in the state to generate revenue on its first day with $12,000 from $57,000 handle.
