Chips were flying in the 2023 Triton Super High Roller Series Cyprus $25,000 buy-in no-limit hold’em turbo event, which took a single day to narrow a field of 83 entries down to a winner. In the end it was Anatoliy Zlotnikov who earned the title and the top payout of $496,100 after striking a heads-up deal with Niko Koop.
This was the largest recorded tournament score yet for Zlotnikov, topping the $69,340 he earned as the winner of a 2022 Winter Poker Festival event in Sochi. The Russian player now has nearly $743,000 in recorded tournament earnings under his belt after this victory.
The top 11 finishers made the money in this event. The bubble burst thanks to a double knockout by $30,000 mystery bounty event winner Ding Biao, who busted Fedor Holz and Robert Kuhn in 13th and 12th place to ensure the remaining contenders all locked up at least $51,900.
After the eliminations of Damir Zhugralin (11th – $51,900) and Dylan Linde (10th – $51,900), the field combined onto a single table with Biao in the lead and Zlotnikov in seventh chip position.
Despite coming in with the lead, Ding was ultimately eliminated in seventh place. He outlasted Elton Tsang (9th – $59,100) and kickoff event winner Santhosh Suvarna (8th – $77,800) before getting all-in with A-5 suited facing the pocket sevens of Zlotnikov. The pocket pair held up and Ding was sent to the rail with $99,600 for his seventh-place showing.
Americas Cardroom founder Phil Nagy placed sixth when his A-9 ran into the A-J of Koop, securing $126,500 as the sixth-place finisher. Koop then beat the A-J of online tournament superstar Linus Loeliger with Q-4 suited in a preflop showdown to leave just four players in contention. Loeliger cashed for $161,900.
A classic race spelled the end of Barak Wisbrod, as his pocket fours were outflipped by the K-10 of Zlotnikov. Wisbrod was awarded $204,500 for his first Triton Poker cash.
Triton co-founder Paul Phua secured his 28th cash on the tour, finishing third for $265,600 when his 9-8 suited was unable to overcome the A-Q of Zlotnikov. With that, Zlotnikov and Koop were set to square off with fairly even stacks. They soon hashed out an agreement to lock up $480,100 for both contenders, leaving the title and $16,000 to play for.
In the final hand, Koop’s pocket tens were beaten by the K-8 suited of Zlotnikov, who flopped a king and help from there to bring the fast-paced event to a close.
