Is the world ready for not one, but two, sports betting-themed Hollywood comedies?
Hope so, because that’s exactly what we’re getting, as Deadline.com wrote about a show coming to Amazon sometime in the near future, hot on the heels of Max announcing their entry.
Called Sharps, the Amazon show is about a 30-something guy named Tyler Flynn with a job, a gal, and a … sports betting problem. He hits rock bottom, comes clean to his family, and then is recruited into a sports betting syndicate said to be run by “Buddy Kasper, an eccentric, possibly psychopathic professional sports gambler.”
Hoo boy.

Here’s Charlie!
Meanwhile, the other sports betting-themed show — Chuck Lorre’s How to Be a Bookie — announced a surprising casting choice this week: Charlie Sheen.
Why surprising? Because Lorre and Sheen had a very public falling out a dozen years ago during their time on the monster hit Two and a Half Men.

Sheen will have a recurring role on the Max series, which stars comedian Sebastian Maniscalco as a Los Angeles-based bookie struggling to keep his business afloat with the impending legalization of sports betting in California. (Of course, this is a fictional show, as California is no closer to legalizing sports betting than to legalizing handheld nuclear weaponry.)
How to Be A Bookie will also star Omar J. Dorsey, Jorge Garcia, Andrea Anders, Vanessa Ferlito, and Maxim Swinton.
No debut date has been announced for either show.
